Projects

Here are past projects and undertakings I've either participated in or led!

Journeys

Agnes Scott College

A course exploring globalization, sustainability, art, and music in northern Italy, culminating in a week-long trip to the location of our studies. We examined global themes through common readings, dialogue, and small group discussions, learning about global structures and systems, all before connecting these concepts to first-hand immersion.

Sketchbook Archive

Created art installation displaying the impact of collective memory and art, revolving around two collaborative sketchbooks created by my friends and I, and then took on the project of archiving all 160 pieces of art displayed, preserving an invaluable collection of memories.

DewDee Productions Internship

DewDee Productions

Proposed and undertook internship under contemporary author Terry J. Benton-Walker, managed social media, learned intricacies of the publishing industry, both from the internal viewpoint of an agent, publisher, and editor, as well as from the standpoint of an Author. At the same time, I fostered my own writing skills by writing a novella with Benton-Walker’s guidance.

NPU-Y Internship

NPU-Y

Proposed and undertook internship with organization Neighborhood Planning Unit Y, an organization dedicated to building sustainable communities in Atlanta through collective action and community organization. Researched and categorized food deserts in District 12, volunteered at food banks, and learned what it means to make change in your local community.

Theater

The New School Atlanta

Throughout high school, I was an actor in several productions  (”Clue”, “Night Witches,” “Puffs,” etc.) partnered with Atlanta’s Horizon Theater, as well as a dedicated mentor to younger students and a motivated contributor to script readings, set design, and school events that involved theater.

Writing in the Big City

School of The New York Times

A summer journalism course by The New York Times that aims to allow students to explore issues and perspectives in everything from politics to art. My course specifically aimed to teach students what it was like writing about culture and city life, so, taught by accredited journalists, we were consistently outside, exploring Manhattan, broadening our horizons, and developing our writing skills.

Copyediting

Did both unpaid copyediting and editing of unpublished novels to explore my skills in literary positions, resulting in a better understanding of the revision process in publishing, as well as a better understanding of my own writing and literary processes.

Cocina De Cielo

The New School Spanish Course

Wrote, directed, filmed, edited, captioned, and starred in a comedy-noir murder mystery, entirely in Spanish, as well as handled advertising and distribution to community members. The project ultimately brought members of the student body closer together and resulted in a deliverable for our final project.

Library Volunteering

Fulton County Libraries

Throughout high school, I volunteered at Fulton County libraries after school, aiding the librarians in organizational and computational tasks, as well as assisting with institutional programming and youth outreach.

Creative Writing Club

The New School

Co-led a creative writing club for the entire student body, planning lessons and exercises to help club members improve their writing throughout the school year, as well as put on end of the year exhibitions to display our work. The club ended up going on to become an actual elective at the school.

All Boxed Up

The New School Entrepreneurship Course

Helped create a startup aimed at connecting family and friends through a gift box service, raising funds for my grade’s senior trip. I handled and optimized marketing and distribution, as well as any artistic and logistical needs the team had.

Aspen Young Leaders Fellowship

Participated in a fellowship aimed at helping youth develop their leadership skills, creating changemakers and community leaders through a combination of seminars, discussions, and community exercises.

The Aspen Institute

School Garden

The New School

Proposed and led a project to start a garden in our school, providing community members with both food and a space to relax within our campus. Led team of 16 students to research optimal plants and projects to implement, as well as spearheaded community outreach for supplies and additional education regarding gardening.
