Kaitlyn Fairbanks called her dad first. He was the easier parent, and the one she hadn’t spent the last eight months discussing a chemistry major with. She’d loved her college chemistry course in high school, but two months into college, she was certain that neither the major nor a career in the field was for her.
Fashion is a big, expensive, and incredibly wasteful industry, and even more so when it comes to fast fashion. The price of looking cute can often be much more than we’re willing to pay, in terms of the damage we do to underpaid workers and to the earth. But all hope is not lost!
My family tends to assign the young ones roles. Big cousin Jordan is the Hollywood star. My sister has fought valiantly in my household for the title of chef. Between my cousins and me, the artist role is still up for grabs. But, taking over from my grandparents, I am the newest baker of the family.
